If you've enjoyed listening to the dulcet Scottish tones of the Radio Lingua presenters, now is your chance to learn some Scottish yourself! Radio Lingua has launched a special three-part series introducing you to contemporary Scottish words and phrases. It's all supposed to be a bit of fun and is in aid of the Comic Relief charity which supports projects around the world. On 13th March 2009, all across the UK, people are encouraged to "do something funny for money", so we're launching our Coffee Break Scottish show and making it available for a one-off payment of £3.00, every penny of which goes straight to Comic Relief. Find out more at http://www.coffeebreakscottish.com - Please note that this is supposed to be very silly and is not intended to offend! We're simply trying to raise a bit of money for charity and have a linguistic laugh!

If you’ve been learning French with Coffee Break French then perhaps it’s time for your children or grandchildren to do the same. One of the most common requests we receive is for materials which are aimed at younger learners, so we’ve come up with School Run French. As parents we often seem to run a taxi service for our children - school, clubs, scouts, football practice, dance classes, and so on. We thought that just as adults can learn in their coffee break, so can children learn at times when they’re not doing anything else. And if this time happens to be the morning school run, then some French fun will help to prepare young minds for a productive day at school. Each show lasts just 7 minutes, and combines the presentation of new words and phrases with some interactive audio games: translating against the clock, mind reading, and guessing the word. Like all RLN courses, School Run French is progressive, so children with no French at all can begin at with episode 1. If children are learning French at school already they will benefit hugely from the practice and review provided by the podcasts. SRF is aimed at 7-11 year olds, but in out trials, the materials have also been used very successfully with younger children. We would always suggest that children should listen several times to the one episode before moving on to the next. However, as the course is progressive, each episode builds on what has been covered before, so review is built in to the series. SRF is available now in iTunes and comes in ‘packs’ of 5 lessons dealing with different topics. The public feed will contain a sample episode of each pack, but the premium version of each pack will contain all five lessons, puzzle sheets for children, notes for parents and a certificate to mark the completion of each unit. For more information about how your children can learn French with School Run French, visit schoolrunlearning.com.

An update for our subscribers: There are two things I’d like to tell you about today., The first of these is some good news about CBF. We’re back on track and Anna is feeling much better. We’ve been recording some content for you and the ‘new term’ will begin on Saturday 17th January when you’ll be able to download lesson 41 and start to get back into your French. The new season will really help you build your confidence in the language as we’re going to be looking at grammar in more depth. So, next Saturday, 17th January, season 5 of CBF begins. Make sure you stay subscribed to this feed and you’ll receive the next lessons automatically. For those of you who have been premium subscribers, we’ll be providing information as to how to continue to receive the bonus materials for CBF. We’ll put some detailed information in the premium podcast feed during the next week with a step by step guide as to how to get the new materials. The other piece of news I’d like to tell you about today is that we’ve been working on a new French project over the past year and we’re absolutely delighted to announce that it’s now ready to see the light of day! Walk, Talk and Learn French is a video podcast which introduces elements of French grammar and vocabulary in a very innovative way. You may remember PB who has featured in a number of episodes of CBF. Well, he brings his inimitable style to WTL as he wanders around the streets of Paris, talking about the language he sees on signs, posters and adverts. If you are lucky enough to be able to travel to the country where the language you are learning is spoken then you can experience this type of immersion as you look around you. However, it’s not always possible to travel to the country and experience it for yourself. So, we’re bringing these examples of French in use to you, with this new video podcast. WTL can be accessed through the website at walktalkandlearn.com and, as usual, you can subscribe to the podcast in iTunes or by using the links on the website. The weekly video episodes will be delivered directly to your computer or your iPod or iPhone. They’re also available to play directly from the website, and there are lesson notes and exercises available too. I’ve put a couple of promo videos in the CBF feed so hopefully you’ll be able to get a feel for what we’re trying to bring you with WTL.
